Four Officers Killed, Others Wounded in North Codorus Township Ambush

NORTH CODORUS TWP., Pa. — A massive police response is underway in North Codorus Township after what officials are describing as an ambush on responding officers Wednesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that four officers were fatally shot, and at least two others remain in critical condition following the violent confrontation. One suspect has been confirmed deceased at the scene.

The incident began around 2:13 p.m. when dispatchers received a distress call from the area of Senft Road near Haar Road. Emergency radio traffic described the situation as an “officer down/signal 13,” prompting an immediate response from multiple agencies, EMS crews, and tactical teams. Units from EMS Station 97, including A97-41 and MICU97-51, were dispatched to provide urgent medical assistance.

Authorities said that responding officers came under heavy gunfire shortly after arriving on scene. Initial reports indicated that the suspect ambushed law enforcement as they attempted to engage, resulting in multiple casualties. Four officers were confirmed dead, while two more sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to local hospitals. York Hospital was placed on lockdown as a precaution while victims were transported for emergency treatment.

As the situation unfolded, police urged residents living near Senft Road and Emig Road to shelter in place. Roads in the area were closed, and law enforcement asked the public to avoid the neighborhood until the scene could be secured. The Spring Grove Area School District also enacted a shelter-in-place order for all K–12 campuses, stressing that there was no direct threat to students or school property but that the precaution was necessary due to the active police operation.

District officials confirmed that middle and high school students who had already left on buses or vans were returned to their schools until dismissal could safely resume. Parents picking up car riders were still allowed to do so, but officials warned that transportation delays were inevitable. The district reassured families that normal operations would resume once law enforcement cleared the area and thanked the community for its patience during the unfolding crisis.

At this stage, authorities have not said whether additional suspects are involved or confirmed if the scene is fully secure. The condition of the surviving officers has not been updated. Officials stressed that the investigation remains active and fluid, and more details will be released as they become available. For now, the ambush has left North Codorus Township in shock, reeling from one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in recent Pennsylvania history.
