BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man late Monday night in Birmingham. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Willie Antwon James, a resident of Birmingham.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers were dispatched around 10:45 p.m. on October 6 to reports of a shooting in the parking lot near Building 100 of Golden Crest Circle. When officers arrived at the scene, they found James suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts from responding paramedics, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Detectives immediately began processing the scene for evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. Preliminary findings suggest that the shooting may have occurred following a confrontation in the parking lot, though officials have not confirmed a motive.
