Authorities in Lincoln have identified the woman found dead inside her northeast Lincoln home Thursday morning as 43-year-old Tracy Henman, according to the Lincoln Police Department (LPD). Assistant Chief Jason Stille shared updates Friday, confirming that a man known to Henman has been taken into custody while the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Police said the discovery was made around 8 a.m. Thursday after Henman’s relatives, concerned that they had not heard from her in several days, requested a welfare check at her residence on Deweese Drive, just north of 56th and Holdrege Streets. Responding officers entered the home and found both Henman and a man inside. Authorities reported that Henman had visible injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man, a 40-year-old Lincoln resident, was immediately detained and later transported to a local hospital for treatment of facial and neck injuries. He remains under medical supervision.
Assistant Chief Stille emphasized that investigators believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. He noted that the suspect’s name will be released once he is formally booked into the Lancaster County Jail. “Charges are currently pending,” Stille said, adding that the final charges could change depending on autopsy results and additional investigative findings. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to determine the official cause and manner of death, as well as the estimated time of the incident.
The LPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit continues to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and review forensic materials related to both the victim and the suspect. Investigators are also working to clarify the exact nature of the relationship between Henman and the man in custody. Residents in the area reported seeing multiple police vehicles and emergency crews at the scene for several hours Thursday morning as officers secured the property and processed evidence.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity near Deweese Drive earlier this week to come forward. This marks Lincoln’s sixth homicide investigation of 2025, with police records showing that three of the previous cases involved domestic circumstances. City officials and local advocacy organizations are once again reminding residents that confidential help and resources are available for individuals in unsafe or abusive relationships. As investigators continue their work, authorities have extended condolences to Henman’s family and friends, assuring the public that transparency and community safety remain top priorities.
