Walterboro Man Killed in Rollover Crash on Cypress Campground Road in Ridgeville

RIDGEVILLE, S.C. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in Ridgeville. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 45-year-old Sylvester Stinson of Walterboro lost his life in the tragic accident.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Cypress Campground Road when a Ford pickup truck traveling west veered off the right side of the road. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to swerve across the road and overturn.

Troopers reported that Stinson was the only occupant in the pickup and was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Despite wearing a seat belt, the impact was severe, and he died at the scene from his injuries. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but their efforts to assist were unsuccessful.

Officials have not released further details about what may have led to the vehicle leaving the roadway. Weather, speed, or mechanical failure have not yet been ruled out as possible factors in the incident. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate to determine the exact cause of the crash.
