Authorities Seek Driver After Lugoff Hit-and-Run Kills 46-Year-Old Woman

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a tragic hit-and-run accident over the weekend in Lugoff. The Kershaw County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 46-year-old Stacey Shavone Anderson, whose life was cut short after being struck by a vehicle late Saturday night, October 18.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 9:40 p.m. after reports of a pedestrian being hit near the intersection of Highway 601 and Porter Cross Road. When first responders arrived, they found Anderson unresponsive. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved had already fled before authorities arrived.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) and the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the case. Officials say they are actively searching for the vehicle involved and working to identify the driver. The SCHP’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) has been assigned to analyze evidence, including vehicle debris and tire markings, and review possible surveillance footage from nearby businesses or traffic cameras.

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 803-572-8435 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers. Authorities emphasized that even small details — such as a suspicious vehicle seen in the area — could be vital in helping solve the case.

The Lugoff Fire-Rescue Department and Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist with traffic management and evidence collection. The roadway was temporarily closed while investigators worked, reopening later that night. Coroner David West extended heartfelt condolences to Anderson’s loved ones and confirmed that an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

News of Anderson’s death has left the Lugoff community grieving. Residents described her as a warm, caring person who will be deeply missed. Many have also voiced concerns about pedestrian safety along Highway 601, an area known for limited lighting and past accidents. Local officials say they will review roadway safety with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to explore possible improvements. As the investigation continues, authorities remain committed to bringing justice to Anderson’s family and closure to the community.
