TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities are investigating a tragic industrial accident that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man Monday evening in southern Tucson. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD), deputies were dispatched to the area of South Swan Road and Old Vail Connection Road around 5:30 p.m. following reports of a workplace accident.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered an adult male pinned beneath a concrete mixer. Despite immediate emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as Omar Quihui, a 26-year-old Tucson resident.
Investigators say the incident occurred in an industrial work environment, though specific details about the company or the circumstances leading up to the accident have not yet been released. Preliminary findings suggest that Quihui may have been performing maintenance or operational duties near the machinery when the fatal event occurred.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that there are no signs of foul play or criminal activity at this stage of the investigation. However, the agency emphasized that the case remains active and ongoing as investigators work to piece together what went wrong.
Authorities are coordinating with occupational and regulatory agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to ensure a full review of workplace safety procedures and compliance. These agencies will assess whether proper safety measures were in place at the time of the incident.
The death of Omar Quihui has left family, friends, and co-workers mourning a life lost far too soon. Officials expressed condolences to his loved ones and reiterated the importance of safety protocols in industrial settings to prevent future tragedies. Further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
