SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly road incident that occurred early Friday morning on Jedburg Road, just west of Summerville. According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been named as 25-year-old Milly Asencio, a Summerville resident whose life was tragically cut short in the pre-dawn hours.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) reported that the incident happened around 2:37 a.m., approximately three miles west of Summerville. Preliminary findings indicate that Asencio was walking along the westbound side of Jedburg Road, heading east, when she was struck by a Jeep traveling west. Emergency responders from Pineridge Fire & Rescue, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and Berkeley County EMS arrived promptly but were unable to save her. Asencio was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the driver of the Jeep was not injured, and no charges have been filed at this time. The SCHP and Berkeley County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the crash, including what factors may have contributed to the tragedy. Investigators are reviewing witness statements, physical evidence, and any available surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses to determine exactly how the collision occurred.
Jedburg Road, which connects several growing communities west of Summerville, is known for its early-morning traffic as residents commute to work. Although pedestrian incidents are not frequent in the area, officials often use such tragedies to remind both drivers and pedestrians about the importance of road safety, particularly in low-light or early-morning conditions. Pedestrians are urged to wear reflective clothing and stay on sidewalks when possible, while drivers are advised to remain alert and reduce speeds in dimly lit zones.
Community members have taken to social media to express condolences and share memories of Asencio, describing her as a friendly and compassionate person known by many in the Summerville area. Local leaders have also extended their sympathies to her loved ones, calling the loss “deeply heartbreaking” and a reminder of how fragile life can be.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office is expected to release additional information once the investigation is complete, including whether lighting, weather, or other factors played a role. For now, the Summerville community mourns the loss of a young woman whose life ended far too soon, while officials urge everyone to remain cautious and share the road responsibly to help prevent future tragedies.
