Three Victims, Including 9-Year-Old Child, killed in Sangamon County Triple Homicide

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Authorities in Sangamon County have released new details surrounding the triple homicide that shocked the Springfield community earlier this week. The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office confirmed that three individuals were found dead on October 9th inside a residence in the 3000 block of Hoover Avenue. Investigators have now identified the victims as Mhynesha Day, 22, Devione Brady, 21, and Cash Russell, 9, all of Springfield.

According to Sheriff’s officials, a search warrant was executed at the home where the victims were discovered. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted detectives in collecting and processing evidence. Information obtained from the initial scene led investigators to secure a second search warrant at a nearby apartment complex, where they continued gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Officials said the case quickly developed multiple leads that have expanded the scope of the investigation.

During the course of their work, detectives identified a red SUV that was seen in the area around the time of the killings. On October 10th, with help from the Springfield Police Department and several law enforcement partners, officers located a vehicle matching that description near Governor Street and MacArthur Boulevard in Springfield. The SUV was occupied by two females who were questioned and later released at the scene. The vehicle was towed for further forensic analysis as evidence technicians continue to examine it for possible connections to the crime.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed that autopsies were performed earlier today on all three victims. Preliminary findings revealed that each of them died from gunshot wounds, confirming what investigators had suspected from the beginning. The discovery of a young child among the victims has deeply affected the community, and grief counselors have been made available to support local residents and relatives of the deceased.

Detectives continue to follow multiple leads, conduct interviews, and gather additional evidence. Authorities have not released information about potential suspects or a motive for the shooting. Sheriff’s officials emphasized that this remains an active and ongoing investigation, and further updates will be shared as confirmed details become available.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information related to this case to contact Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427. Investigators say community cooperation could be critical in helping to bring justice to the victims and closure to their families.
