SWOSU Student Found Dead in Murray County After Weeklong Search; Suspect Arrested

WEATHERFORD, Okla. — The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) community is grieving the death of 18-year-old student Logan Nathaniel Musil, who was reported missing on September 30 and later found deceased in Murray County. Authorities confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the case as the investigation continues.

According to officials, the SWOSU Police Department requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) on October 5 after Musil’s disappearance was reported. OSBI agents, working alongside multiple local, state, and federal agencies, launched an extensive search effort focused on areas where Musil was last believed to have been seen.

Investigators concentrated their efforts near Veteran’s Lake in Sulphur, Oklahoma, based on information uncovered during the early stages of the search. On October 8, a coordinated ground operation involving the OSBI, Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, and the National Park Service led to the discovery of human remains in a wooded area nearby. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where it was later identified as Logan Musil.

As the investigation unfolded, OSBI agents determined that Musil had been involved in an altercation with another individual prior to his death. That person, identified as 18-year-old Cameron Lewis, was taken into custody on October 9 in Weatherford. He has since been booked into the Custer County Jail as authorities continue to gather evidence to determine his role in the incident.

While investigators have not yet released details regarding the cause or manner of death, they confirmed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma will review the findings to determine appropriate charges. Law enforcement agencies have expressed gratitude for the coordinated efforts that led to the discovery, highlighting the cooperation among local, state, and federal partners.

In a statement, the OSBI extended condolences to Musil’s family and thanked all assisting agencies for their support throughout the investigation. The university community has also expressed heartbreak over the tragic loss, with classmates and faculty describing Logan as “kind, driven, and full of potential.” The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to his untimely death.
