INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old woman has died after being fatally shot inside an Indianapolis apartment on Friday, September 26, and police say her boyfriend is now facing murder charges in connection with the case.

Authorities identified the victim as LaNya Anderson, who was discovered with a gunshot wound after officers were dispatched to the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators initially noted conflicting statements from her boyfriend, 20-year-old Tyairz Glover, who reportedly claimed Anderson had taken her own life. However, evidence and witness accounts quickly pointed to a different story.
According to court documents, Glover’s own mother came forward with key information that contradicted his claim. She told police that her son admitted in a text message that he had shot Anderson. Investigators also learned that she overheard the couple arguing on the phone shortly before the fatal gunfire. Her statements, combined with additional evidence collected at the scene, led detectives to pursue homicide charges.
The mother further told investigators that Glover has a troubling history of violent threats and mental health struggles. According to her account, he has repeatedly threatened harm against others, including herself. At one point, she recalled her son saying he would kill her. Police noted these reports in their probable cause filing, underscoring concerns about Glover’s ongoing instability and access to firearms.
Following his arrest, Glover was formally charged with murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Records show he was not legally permitted to own or carry a firearm due to prior convictions. He is currently being held without bond in the Marion County Jail, where he remained over the weekend as the case moves through the court system.
Anderson’s death marks yet another case of intimate partner violence that has left family, friends, and the wider community grieving. Advocates stress the importance of recognizing the warning signs of domestic abuse and mental health crises before they escalate into tragedy. Indianapolis police continue to investigate the incident and have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed. A preliminary hearing for Glover is expected in the coming days.
