25-Year-Old Man Killed in Rural Hidalgo County Crash Involving Off-Road Vehicle

EDINBURG, Texas — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of 25-year-old Juan Antonio Villasana on Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, in rural Hidalgo County. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the tragic collision occurred around 8:33 p.m. on East Ingle Road, north of Jasman Road, and involved a Nissan Kicks and a Can-Am Maverick off-road vehicle.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Can-Am Maverick, driven by a male with Villasana as a passenger, was traveling westbound on East Ingle Road when the Nissan, also heading west, attempted to pass on the left. During the passing maneuver, the two vehicles collided, resulting in a severe impact that caused fatal injuries to Villasana. Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly but pronounced him dead at the scene. Both drivers were evaluated for injuries but did not require hospitalization.

DPS officials say the crash remains under active investigation as troopers work to determine what led to the deadly collision. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether speed, road conditions, or visibility contributed to the incident. The roadway, known for limited lighting and narrow lanes, was temporarily closed while investigators documented the scene and cleared debris.

News of Villasana’s death has sent shockwaves through the Edinburg community. Friends and family describe him as a kind, hardworking young man with a bright future ahead. He was known for his generosity, warm smile, and love of the outdoors, spending much of his free time exploring and enjoying nature with friends. Loved ones say he had a heart “as big as Texas” and always made others feel valued and cared for.

As authorities continue to investigate, the Texas Department of Public Safety is urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly on rural roads where mixed traffic — including off-road and farm vehicles — is common. They emphasize that safe passing and defensive driving are critical to preventing similar tragedies.

This heartbreaking loss has left Villasana’s family and community grieving deeply, remembering a young man whose life was filled with promise, kindness, and love. His memory will endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
