CHICAGO, IL — Authorities are investigating a deadly stabbing that claimed the life of a 37-year-old man late Sunday night on Chicago’s West Side. Police said the incident occurred near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Parkside Avenue, an area that has seen a rise in violent crime in recent months.

According to preliminary reports from the Chicago Police Department, the victim, identified as Jonathan Rudd, suffered a stab wound to the chest during an altercation. Officers and emergency medical responders arrived at the scene within minutes of the attack and immediately began performing lifesaving measures in an effort to save his life.
Despite their best efforts, Rudd was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity and cause of death as a fatal stab wound. The tragedy has added to growing concerns about public safety and the recent string of violent incidents across the West Side.
Investigators from the Chicago Police Department’s Area Four Bureau of Detectives have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. At this stage, authorities have not released details about a possible motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other. No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.
Police said detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and speaking with witnesses who may have seen or heard anything connected to the incident. Residents in the area expressed fear and frustration, noting that violent crime continues to disrupt their community. “It’s heartbreaking,” one neighbor said. “We just want to feel safe again.”
