SHREVEPORT, La. — Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a tragic two-vehicle collision Monday morning on North Market Street. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 62-year-old Jerry Williams, a longtime Shreveport resident known for his kindness and community spirit.
According to an initial report from the Shreveport Police Department, the crash occurred around 10 a.m. in the 3500 block of North Market Street near Poleman Road. Emergency responders, including local medics and fire crews, arrived shortly after receiving multiple 911 calls about the accident. When officers reached the scene, they found two heavily damaged vehicles blocking the roadway.
Preliminary findings revealed that Williams was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Despite the immediate efforts of first responders to provide medical aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Authorities have not released the driver’s name or current condition.
The Shreveport Police Department’s Traffic Division has launched a full investigation to determine what caused the collision. Detectives are examining witness statements, roadway evidence, and surveillance footage from nearby businesses to reconstruct the moments leading up to the impact. Traffic was diverted for several hours as officers cleared debris and collected evidence before reopening the road later that day.
Friends and neighbors described Jerry Williams as a warm, generous man who often lent a helping hand to those in need. His sudden death has deeply affected the North Shreveport community, with many taking to social media to share memories and messages of sympathy for his family. “He was one of the kindest people you could meet,” one neighbor wrote. “He would always stop to help anyone.”
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted as part of standard procedure. Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with information or footage of the crash to contact the Shreveport Police Department’s Traffic Division. Authorities continue to remind motorists to remain alert, follow traffic laws, and drive with caution—especially during busy morning hours—to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
