HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities in Hawkins County are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting that left one man dead early Friday morning in the New Canton community. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Jerry Michael Davidson, according to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the area early Friday after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Davidson deceased at the scene. Investigators have since confirmed the incident was a drive-by shooting, prompting a swift and large-scale search for the suspects involved. The sheriff’s office emphasized that, based on preliminary findings, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
A person of interest has been identified, though authorities have not yet released their name. Regional “Be On the Lookout” alerts (BOLOs) were issued to law enforcement agencies across East Tennessee and neighboring Virginia, describing a vehicle occupied by three male subjects believed to be connected to the shooting. One of the passengers was reportedly the shooter responsible for Davidson’s death.
Just hours after the killing, Bristol, Virginia police confirmed the arrest of a suspect in an unrelated murder investigation. However, law enforcement officials have not yet determined whether the arrest is connected to the Hawkins County homicide. Investigators are working with multiple agencies to verify any possible links between the two cases.
Sheriff’s officials have not disclosed the motive for the shooting or details regarding how Davidson became a target. Detectives from the Hawkins County Criminal Investigations Division remain at the scene gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
“This is a tragic situation, and we are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice,” the sheriff’s office said in a brief statement Friday afternoon. “Our thoughts are with the family of the victim as we continue this active investigation.” Authorities have asked anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to contact the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office.
