A tragic crash in Seneca County, Ohio, on Monday morning claimed the life of a 37-year-old man and left two children fighting for their lives. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the fatal collision occurred around 7:15 a.m. on September 22 along Township Road 73, just outside Old Fort.
Troopers reported that the incident began when an 18-year-old driver from Old Fort was traveling southbound and lost control of her vehicle. The car veered off the left side of the road before the driver attempted to correct its course. In the process, the vehicle swerved back onto the roadway and collided head-on with a northbound car carrying 37-year-old Jeromy Danielski, also of Old Fort, along with two children.
The impact proved devastating. Danielski was pronounced dead at the scene, while both children were critically injured. Emergency responders quickly arranged for Life Flight transport to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, where the children were admitted for advanced treatment. Their conditions remain undisclosed as of Monday evening, but officials described the injuries as life-threatening.
The southbound driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a Fremont hospital for evaluation. Authorities confirmed she has been cooperative with investigators. OSHP has not indicated whether alcohol, distraction, or speed were contributing factors, but the crash remains under active investigation. Officials said they will closely examine roadway conditions, vehicle evidence, and witness accounts before issuing a final report.
The tragedy has deeply shaken the Old Fort community, where Danielski and his family were well known. Local residents expressed sorrow at the loss of a father and neighbor, while also praying for the recovery of the two injured children. Community members emphasized the heartbreak of losing a life so suddenly, particularly in a crash that affected multiple generations.
Highway safety experts note that head-on collisions are among the deadliest types of roadway accidents, particularly on rural two-lane roads where a brief moment of inattention can have devastating results. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has urged drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, and exercise caution on narrow rural routes. Meanwhile, investigators continue to appeal for witnesses or residents with video footage that may shed light on the events leading up to the deadly crash.
