Bicyclist Identified in Fatal Richmond Crash on West Broad Street

RICHMOND, Va. — Authorities have identified the bicyclist who tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Richmond. The victim has been named as 46-year-old James Boggs, Jr., a longtime resident of the city, according to the Richmond Police Department (RPD).

The deadly crash occurred around 3:28 p.m. on October 23, 2025, in the 1500 block of West Broad Street, a busy stretch often crowded with vehicles and pedestrians. Investigators said Boggs was traveling eastbound on West Broad Street and was crossing Bowe Street when he was hit by a dark-colored sedan. The vehicle had been traveling south on Bowe Street and was attempting a right turn onto West Broad Street when the collision occurred.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and Boggs was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. Police have not announced any charges or citations at this stage of the investigation.

Members of the RPD Crash Team continue to examine the circumstances leading to the incident. They are reviewing physical evidence, traffic camera footage, and possible witness statements to determine exactly what led to the crash.
