MIAMI, Fla. – A 25-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly shooting another woman who came to her residence during a confrontation over a man. Authorities identified the suspect as Jahniya Medea, who is now being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The incident unfolded on the evening of September 20 when the victim arrived at Medea’s home, demanding to see her boyfriend. According to police, the woman repeatedly banged on the front door, insisting that the man come outside. Investigators confirmed the boyfriend was inside Medea’s bedroom at the time of the disturbance.
As tensions escalated, the victim eventually began walking away toward a side gate on the property. At that moment, police say Medea emerged from her home armed with a firearm. Surveillance video from a Ring doorbell camera allegedly captured Medea yelling, “Get from my house!” before firing two shots in the victim’s direction.
The boyfriend, who has not been publicly named, was seen fleeing the property in a Mercedes-Benz immediately after the gunfire. Officers later located him, and he admitted to being inside Medea’s home when the shooting occurred. Meanwhile, the victim managed to leave the scene but was later found in a nearby park suffering from gunshot wounds to her buttocks and back. She was transported to a local hospital, where she is expected to survive.
During questioning, Medea reportedly told investigators that the victim had threatened her in the past, suggesting that the shooting was the result of ongoing tensions. However, police have not indicated that the victim was armed or posed an immediate threat during the confrontation. The case remains under active investigation as detectives continue reviewing video evidence and witness statements.
Authorities emphasized the serious nature of the charges against Medea, noting that discharging a firearm during a dispute can carry severe legal consequences. While the victim recovers, prosecutors are expected to review the case to determine what charges will be formally filed. For now, Medea remains in custody without bond as the Miami-Dade community reacts to the violent altercation that began as a dispute over a boyfriend and ended in gunfire.
