SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a Florence County woman on Sunday evening. The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 49-year-old Felicia Williams Sims, who died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
According to Coroner Robert Baker, the single-vehicle crash occurred around 6 p.m. on October 12 along Interstate 95 North, between mile markers 141 and 146. Sims was a passenger in the vehicle when it left the roadway and crashed, resulting in fatal injuries. Despite the swift response from emergency personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released details about the driver or what may have caused the vehicle to veer off the road. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is leading the investigation, with assistance from the coroner’s office, as they work to determine whether factors such as speed, fatigue, or weather conditions contributed to the wreck.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where medical examiners will further assess the nature of Sims’ injuries and provide additional insight into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The fatal crash brought traffic delays to the area as law enforcement and emergency responders worked to secure the scene and begin their investigation. Officials are urging drivers to remain alert and cautious, particularly when traveling on high-speed interstates where a moment’s distraction can lead to devastating consequences.
Family, friends, and members of the Florence County community are mourning the sudden loss of Felicia Sims, described by those who knew her as a loving, kindhearted woman. As investigators continue their work, loved ones are left grieving the unexpected tragedy that has taken her life far too soon.
