One Dead, One Injured in fatal Wolf Point Shooting; Suspect at Large

WOLF POINT, Mont. — A deadly shooting outside an Albertsons grocery store has left one person dead and another wounded on Sunday night, prompting an urgent manhunt for the suspect. Authorities have identified the gunman as 26-year-old Ethan Murphy, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2025, around 8:40 p.m., when officers from the Wolf Point Police Department were dispatched to reports of shots fired in the parking lot of Albertsons, located at 415 Blaine Street. Upon arrival, Officer Bushman discovered two victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officer Bushman immediately provided life-saving aid until emergency responders arrived. The surviving victim was transported to Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point for further treatment. Officials have not released the names of the victims pending notification of their families.

Law enforcement has identified Ethan Murphy as the suspect in the shooting. He is still on the run, and investigators warn that he may be armed. Authorities have urged Wolf Point residents to shelter in place, remain vigilant, and avoid approaching the suspect. Anyone with information about Murphy’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.

The shooting has triggered a large-scale multi-agency response. Alongside the Wolf Point Police Department, the Fort Peck Tribes Patrol and Criminal Investigation Unit, the Wolf Point Fire Department, and the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene assisting with the investigation and search efforts. Officers have not yet disclosed a possible motive behind the shooting.

The case remains under active investigation as law enforcement combs through evidence and interviews witnesses. More details, including the identities of the victims and updates on the condition of the survivor, are expected to be released in the coming days. For now, Wolf Point remains on high alert as the search for Murphy continues.
