Victims identified in Michigan City Double Homicide; Juvenile Suspect in Custody

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — Authorities have identified two victims found dead in a horrific double homicide in Michigan City, Indiana, as 67-year-old Eddie Nixon and 66-year-old Sylvia White. A juvenile suspect is currently in custody as investigators work to determine what led to the violent crime that has shaken the community.

According to the Michigan City Police Department, officers discovered the bodies of Nixon and White inside their residence in the 100 block of Schofield Court on Sunday, October 19. The discovery came shortly after La Porte County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a separate vehicle crash involving a juvenile near Johnson Road and West County Road 300 North earlier that morning. That crash prompted a welfare check at the Schofield Court address, where police uncovered the tragic scene.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death or the exact timeline of events, citing the sensitivity of the active investigation. However, they confirmed that the juvenile suspect knew the victims, though the nature of their relationship has not been publicly released. The suspect is being held at the La Porte County Juvenile Services Center as prosecutors review the evidence.

La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan said his office is carefully evaluating whether to pursue adult charges in the case. “These situations are incredibly complex,” Fagan stated. “We want to make sure every factor—including the suspect’s age and the circumstances surrounding the crime—is thoroughly evaluated before moving forward.”

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses to piece together what happened before the deaths of Nixon and White. Police have urged residents with any information to contact the Michigan City Police Department’s Detective Bureau, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in bringing clarity to this tragedy.

The heartbreaking loss of the elderly couple has left neighbors and friends stunned. Many described Nixon and White as kind, quiet individuals who had lived in the community for years. As detectives continue their work, Michigan City residents are mourning the violent end of two well-loved community members whose lives were taken far too soon.
