CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that unfolded early Thursday morning during what police describe as a violent domestic dispute. The incident occurred on September 25, 2025, in the 12300 block of Moores Lake Road.
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call around 4:07 a.m. reporting an assault with a deadly weapon inside a residence. When officers arrived, they discovered 38-year-old Eddie Hairston III, who lived at the address, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings suggest the shooting stemmed from a domestic altercation between Hairston and an adult female who was also inside the home. Investigators say Hairston allegedly assaulted the woman and threatened her life while brandishing a firearm. In response, the woman retrieved a weapon and fired at Hairston, fatally wounding him.
At this stage, police are treating the case as a justifiable homicide, though the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting, including interviews with the woman involved and other potential witnesses. Authorities have not indicated whether any charges are expected.
Domestic violence incidents remain a major public safety concern, often escalating with little warning. Law enforcement agencies urge individuals experiencing threats or abuse to seek help before situations turn deadly. In many cases, police say, access to weapons during domestic disputes significantly raises the risk of fatal outcomes.
