Two Women Charged in Fayetteville Crash That Killed Three E.E. Smith High School Students

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police have filed multiple charges against two women in connection with a devastating crash earlier this month that claimed the lives of three E.E. Smith High School students. The fatal collision occurred on October 8, 2025, along Rosehill Road, and investigators now say street racing was a factor in the tragedy.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department (FPD), the department’s Traffic Unit secured the charges on October 21 following consultation with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators determined that two vehicles were engaged in a willful speed competition moments before the deadly crash, which resulted in three teenage victims losing their lives.

Police have identified 21-year-old Dymond Nekiya Monroe, of Fayetteville, as one of the drivers involved. Monroe faces three counts of involuntary manslaughter, along with charges of willful speed competition, speeding, careless and reckless driving, and an insurance violation. Authorities said Monroe remains hospitalized at a medical facility due to injuries sustained in the crash. The FPD Traffic Unit is coordinating with judicial officials to move forward with the case once her medical condition allows.

A second driver, 19-year-old Destini Rhinada Genwright, also of Fayetteville, has been charged with willful speed competition, speeding, careless and reckless driving, and an insurance violation. Police said Genwright was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger, which has since been seized as part of the investigation. While she has been in contact with detectives, authorities are urging her to turn herself in. Investigators also appealed to Genwright’s family and friends to assist in coordinating her surrender to law enforcement.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the department stated in a press release. “Our Traffic Unit continues to analyze evidence related to this fatal crash, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.” Police are still reviewing data and witness accounts to confirm the full sequence of events leading up to the deadly collision.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Detective C. Lewis at (910) 818-1872 or submit anonymous tips through Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted online at fay-nccrimestoppers.org or through the P3 Tips app. The tragedy has shaken the Fayetteville community, as residents continue to mourn the loss of three young lives taken far too soon.
