74-Year-Old Woman killed in Deadly Shirley Township House Fire

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pennsylvania — Authorities have identified the woman who tragically died in a residential fire earlier this week in Shirley Township. According to Huntingdon County Coroner Paul Sharum, the victim was 74-year-old Dorothy Bubb, who lost her life Monday evening after a blaze broke out at a home along Croghan Pike. Officials confirmed that she died from smoke inhalation, a leading cause of death in house fires.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of a structure fire were received. When firefighters arrived, they found the residence engulfed in thick smoke and heavy flames. Despite their efforts to control the blaze and search the property, Bubb could not be rescued in time and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Authorities said the home, located behind the New Life Fellowship Church, was believed to be occupied by several residents. Preliminary reports suggest that as many as seven people may have been living there, although investigators have not confirmed how many were inside when the fire began. Other occupants were able to escape, but officials have not said whether anyone else was injured or displaced.

Once the fire was brought under control, investigators from the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit began examining the property to determine the cause of the blaze. While the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time, officials said the investigation remains ongoing. Fire marshals are reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and assessing possible causes, including electrical problems, heating sources, or other household hazards.

Neighbors expressed grief upon learning of Bubb’s passing, describing her as a kind, friendly, and community-oriented woman. Many residents in Shirley Township said the loss has deeply affected the neighborhood, and several offered condolences and support to her family. Local officials also used the tragedy as a reminder of the importance of fire safety precautions, urging everyone to test smoke alarms, replace old batteries, and have an escape plan in place.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Shirley Township Fire Department, nearby volunteer fire companies, and emergency medical services. The American Red Cross has been notified to assist those affected by the blaze. The Pennsylvania State Police and Huntingdon County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident to determine its exact cause.
