Two Teens Arrested in Deadly Woodbridge Shooting That Claimed Life of David Kallo

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Two 18-year-olds have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that left a Frederick man dead and another person injured in Prince William County. Police confirmed the arrests nearly a week after 35-year-old David Kapay Kallo was gunned down during a confrontation outside a shopping area on Telegraph Road.

Authorities said the shooting happened last Saturday night in the 13700 block of Telegraph Road, across from the Target store on Prince William Parkway. According to investigators, Kallo became involved in an argument with the suspects before the altercation turned violent. Police said he attempted to walk away when shots were fired, striking him fatally. Emergency crews responded quickly, but Kallo was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a 27-year-old man who was nearby at the time, was also hit by gunfire. Police described him as an unintended target who was caught in the crossfire. Despite his injuries, the man managed to flee the scene before later receiving treatment at a hospital. Officials confirmed that his injuries were not life-threatening, and he has since been released.

On Tuesday, investigators arrested Jordy Lopez Campos, 18, of Woodbridge, identifying him as the suspected gunman. Campos is facing multiple charges, including murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. A second suspect, David Omar Benitez Martinez, 18, of Dumfries, was arrested on Friday. Police said Martinez faces four counts of being a principal in the second degree to the commission of a felony, along with an accessory felony charge. Authorities allege Martinez was involved in the dispute that led to the shooting but was not the one who pulled the trigger.

Prince William County police emphasized that the incident does not appear to have been random. Instead, investigators believe the deadly violence stemmed directly from the dispute between Kallo and the two suspects. “This was not a random act,” said Lt. Jonathan Perok, a police spokesman, while confirming that the case remains under active investigation. Detectives continue to review evidence and interview witnesses to determine what sparked the confrontation.

For Kallo’s loved ones, the arrests bring some measure of progress, but the grief remains profound. At just 35, his life ended abruptly in a shooting that police say could have been prevented. The case has also raised concerns about the ripple effects of violence, as even a bystander was wounded in the exchange. Both Campos and Benitez Martinez remain held without bond as prosecutors prepare the case for court.
