LUBBOCK, Texas — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning near the intersection of 25th Street and Indiana Avenue. The Lubbock Police Department (LPD) confirmed that 57-year-old Daniel Spray lost his life in the tragic incident.
According to officials, the crash was reported at approximately 7:45 a.m., prompting a swift response from police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel. Investigators determined that a 16-year-old was driving a pickup truck south on Indiana Avenue, while Spray was heading north and attempting to make a left turn onto 24th Street when the collision occurred.
The impact caused the pickup truck to veer off the roadway, striking both a utility pole and a nearby residence before coming to a stop. Spray was found unresponsive inside his vehicle, and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities said the teen driver and a 13-year-old passenger in the truck sustained minor injuries and were taken to University Medical Center for treatment.
Police closed the intersection for several hours Monday morning as the Accident Investigation Unit processed the scene and collected evidence. Officers examined vehicle damage, skid marks, and debris patterns to determine the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Investigators also plan to review potential contributing factors such as speed, right-of-way, and visibility.
The Lubbock Police Department said that the crash remains under active investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. Officials emphasized that determining fault will depend on the findings from the reconstruction and witness interviews. Authorities have not yet commented on whether weather or roadway conditions played a role in the collision.
The loss of Daniel Spray has deeply affected the local community. Friends and neighbors expressed shock at the sudden tragedy, describing Spray as a kind and hardworking man. Police extended condolences to his family and urged the public to drive cautiously, particularly at busy intersections where split-second decisions can lead to devastating outcomes.
