Larkin Township Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash; Woman Injured

Authorities in Midland County have confirmed that a two-vehicle collision in Larkin Township on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of a local man and left a woman injured. According to the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 1:40 p.m. on October 14 at the intersection of North Sturgeon Road and East Monroe Road. Emergency personnel responded swiftly to the scene, but despite their efforts, one life could not be saved.

Investigators reported that 78-year-old Daniel Graiver, a resident of Larkin Township, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala westbound along East Monroe Road, which is controlled by a stop sign at North Sturgeon Road. As Graiver entered the intersection, his vehicle was struck by a 2026 Chevrolet Traverse traveling northbound. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, prompting an immediate response from deputies and emergency medical teams.

The driver of the Traverse, a 37-year-old woman from Mills Township, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Authorities said she was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Sadly, Graiver was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies closed the intersection for several hours while conducting an on-site investigation and clearing the roadway.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the crash remains under active investigation. Detectives are reviewing the conditions of the intersection, traffic patterns, and possible visibility issues that may have contributed to the collision. Officials said mechanical inspections of both vehicles will also be conducted as part of their analysis. No citations or charges have been issued at this time pending the outcome of the investigation.

Residents in Larkin Township and surrounding communities expressed grief following the news of Graiver’s death. Friends and neighbors described him as a respected and longtime member of the community whose presence will be deeply missed. “He was the kind of person who would stop to help anyone,” one neighbor shared. “It’s heartbreaking to lose someone like that.”

Authorities are using the incident as a reminder to exercise extra caution at intersections, particularly those marked with stop signs. The sheriff’s office urged drivers to remain attentive, obey all traffic signals, and take time to ensure roadways are clear before entering. Officials continue to encourage anyone with information about the crash to contact the Midland County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation moves forward.
