BOZEMAN, Mont. — A tragic accident in Gallatin County on Wednesday morning has left the community mourning the loss of 27-year-old Damian Xavier Saavedra, a beloved resident of Belgrade. Authorities confirmed that Saavedra was killed in a motorcycle crash involving a cargo truck at the intersection of Jackrabbit Lane and Baxter Lane shortly after 7:00 a.m. on October 23.

According to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol, the collision involved a Rockport cargo truck and a Chappy YZFR7 motorcycle. Investigators said Saavedra was traveling southbound on Jackrabbit Lane at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle struck the left side of the truck. The truck, driven by a 60-year-old man from Silver Star, was attempting a U-turn at the time of the crash. Despite immediate emergency response, Saavedra was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer expressed his condolences to Saavedra’s family and friends, calling the incident “a heartbreaking loss for the entire community.” The sheriff’s office, alongside Montana Highway Patrol investigators, remains on the scene to determine the factors leading to the crash, including speed, visibility, and roadway conditions. The truck driver was not injured and is cooperating fully with authorities as the investigation continues.

Witnesses told investigators that the crash occurred during the busy morning commute, a time when the intersection is often congested with vehicles. Law enforcement temporarily closed portions of the roadway while investigators documented evidence and cleared debris from the scene.
