Fresno Community Mourns 10-Year-Old Killed in Pedestrian Crash

FRESNO, Calif. – A heartbreaking tragedy has left southwest Fresno grieving after 10-year-old Corday Brown was struck and killed by a car Sunday afternoon on Golden State Boulevard. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the boy’s identity, and family friends have spoken of a young life that brought joy, resilience, and inspiration to those around him.

Corday’s story is marked by both hardship and strength. His mother died during childbirth, leaving his father to raise him alone while now battling cancer. Despite these struggles, Corday was remembered as an outgoing, playful, and humble child whose spirit lifted everyone he met. “He was always the same kid—outgoing, always trying to keep everyone smiling and having fun,” said Raymond Mayberry, a coach with Fresno Miners Nonprofit Youth Football. “Corday was a fun boy, and I’m really going to miss him.”

Mayberry had known Corday since the boy was five years old, when he first joined the Fresno Miners program. On and off the field, Corday stood out as a role model for his peers. “He was one of those kids that other players looked up to,” Mayberry explained. “Whether they were older or younger, everyone paid attention to Corday. He had that special quality about him, and he often became the center of attention.”

Authorities said the fatal accident happened when Corday attempted to cross Golden State Boulevard with his brother and friends in a no-crossing zone. The California Highway Patrol reported that he was struck by a vehicle whose driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Police said alcohol or impairment are not suspected, though the investigation is ongoing.

The loss has deeply shaken Corday’s family, teammates, and community. Mayberry, who has been supporting the children and family in their grief, shared words of faith as comfort. “As a believer in God, the only thing I can tell these kids is that the Lord took Corday home. It was his time, and he’s in a better place now. My message to parents is simple—love your kids and cherish every moment, because life is fragile.”

To honor Corday, Mayberry arranged for Fresno Miners players to wear memorial decals on their helmets, ensuring his spirit remains on the field. A community vigil was also planned for Monday evening at the crash site, giving friends, family, and neighbors a chance to mourn, reflect, and celebrate a boy whose short but meaningful life left an enduring legacy.
