Gresham Woman Killed in Clackamas County Crash on Highway 224

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — A tragic crash in Clackamas County late Saturday morning claimed the life of a Gresham woman and left two others injured, according to the Oregon State Police. The fatal collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Highway 224 near milepost 15, leading to a temporary closure of the busy roadway for several hours.

Investigators said a Toyota Corolla driven by 51-year-old Candida Rodriguez was turning east onto Highway 224 from SE Amisigger Road when it was struck by a westbound Dodge Ram 2500. The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Emergency responders from local fire and rescue units arrived quickly, but Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries.

Two passengers inside the Toyota were treated by first responders before being transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Authorities later confirmed that both individuals were in stable condition. The driver of the Dodge Ram was not hurt and remained at the scene, cooperating fully with investigators. Police have not yet released the driver’s identity.

Highway 224 was shut down for about four hours as state troopers, sheriff’s deputies, and Oregon Department of Transportation crews worked to examine the wreckage, collect evidence, and document the scene. Traffic was diverted to alternate routes during the closure, which caused significant delays for motorists traveling through the area.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Oregon State Police said there is currently no indication that speed or impairment played a role. Investigators are analyzing data from both vehicles and reviewing witness statements to determine exactly how the crash occurred. Officials noted that intersections and highway entry points, like the one where the crash happened, can be especially dangerous if drivers misjudge the distance or speed of oncoming vehicles.

Authorities expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of Candida Rodriguez, calling the incident a devastating reminder of the importance of caution when merging or crossing busy highways. They urged drivers to stay alert, double-check for oncoming traffic, and remain patient at intersections to help prevent similar tragedies. The investigation into the deadly Clackamas County crash is ongoing, and updates will be released once more information becomes available.
