ANDERSON, S.C. — The city of Anderson is mourning after a deadly shooting late Saturday night claimed three lives and left a community shaken. Authorities have identified one of the victims as Calvin Chester Jr., whose tragic death has brought immense grief to his family and friends. The incident unfolded near West Franklin and Murray Avenue, a typically quiet area now marked by tragedy.

According to police, officers responded just before midnight following several 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, investigators later confirmed that the third victim had also succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to three.
The Anderson Police Department, alongside the Madison County Coroner’s Office, has been working to notify next of kin and gather details surrounding the shooting. Family members of Calvin Chester Jr. have described him as a compassionate, hardworking man who always put others before himself. “He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back,” a relative shared on social media. “We just can’t believe he’s gone.”
Neighbors in the area recounted hearing a barrage of gunshots followed by the sound of screeching tires, sending panic through the neighborhood. Police quickly secured the scene, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses well into the early morning hours. Shell casings were recovered from the roadway, though officials have not yet confirmed the type of weapon used.
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released a possible motive. Detectives say they are pursuing several leads and encourage anyone with information to come forward. “This was a senseless act of violence that has devastated families and shaken our community,” said an Anderson Police spokesperson. “We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice.”
In the wake of the tragedy, candlelight vigils are being organized to honor the victims. The community continues to rally around the grieving families, remembering Calvin Chester Jr. not for the violence that took his life, but for his warmth, kindness, and enduring legacy. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Anderson Police Department or Madison County Crime Stoppers.
