LORMAN, Miss. — A tragic shooting at Alcorn State University on Friday evening has left one woman dead and two others injured, casting a shadow over the normally peaceful campus. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Brekyra Fisher, who was fatally shot near the Industrial Technology Building around 6:30 p.m. on October 11, according to Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims, whose identities have not yet been released, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been publicly disclosed, though authorities confirmed both sustained serious injuries during the incident.
Sheriff Goods stated that the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Alcorn State University Police and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), is leading a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Law enforcement officers worked through the night to collect evidence, process the scene, and interview witnesses. At this time, no arrests have been made, and a suspect description has not been released.
Preliminary reports suggest that the shooting occurred during an altercation near the Industrial Technology Building, but investigators have not confirmed whether the victims or suspect were students. Sheriff Goods emphasized that the case remains open and active. “We are doing everything possible to bring the person responsible to justice,” he said. “This is a tragedy that has deeply affected our entire community.” Authorities also noted that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is currently no ongoing threat to the campus.
In response to the tragedy, Alcorn State University officials issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and urging unity in the aftermath of the violence. “We are heartbroken by the loss of life that occurred on our campus,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those affected, and we are committed to supporting our students, faculty, and staff through this difficult time.” Counseling services have been made available to help students cope with the emotional impact of the incident.
As news of Fisher’s death spread, tributes poured in across social media, remembering her as a kind and motivated woman who touched many lives. The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information about the shooting to contact their office or submit an anonymous tip through Mississippi Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
