HOMER, NY — Authorities in Cortland County have identified the man who died following an early morning shooting in the Village of Homer on Wednesday, October 8. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the victim as 53-year-old Anthony T. Beecham, a resident of Homer. Investigators said Beecham sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident, which occurred outside a home on Grove Street.

Emergency dispatchers received a call just before 3:30 a.m. reporting a person in cardiac arrest near 40 Grove Street. Officers from the Homer Police Department and Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded and found Beecham lying in a driveway. First responders immediately began life-saving measures, assisted by members of TLC Ambulance and Homer Rescue, who transported Beecham to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives believe the incident was an isolated event and emphasized that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public. As part of the initial investigation, authorities said a dark-colored vehicle was seen speeding away from the area around the time of the shooting. Investigators are working to determine whether the vehicle or its occupants are connected to the case.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, along with the Homer Police Department, the New York State Police Forensic Unit, and the Cortland County District Attorney’s Office, are jointly investigating the case. Detectives have been reviewing doorbell and surveillance footage from the neighborhood and conducting interviews to piece together a timeline of events.
