FOUNTAIN, Colo. — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Fountain on Thursday morning when police discovered two people dead inside a home in what investigators are calling a murder-suicide. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Bonita Drive after officers with the Fountain Police Department (FPD) responded to a disturbance call at 11:06 a.m.

Authorities identified the victim as 32-year-old Amanda Julia “AJ” Carter, a devoted mother of three. Investigators say she was shot and killed by her ex-husband, who then took his own life. The man, whose name has not yet been released, was also the father of Carter’s children. The shocking act of violence has left the community grieving and raised urgent concerns about the safety of the surviving children.
Carter’s three children — Kora, 13, Hudson, 3, and Aspen, 7 months — were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They were placed in the care of relatives following the tragedy. Her grandmother, Brigitte Juroska, confirmed the children’s presence during the incident and expressed fear about their uncertain future. “She had a three-year-old, a seven-month-old, and a 13-year-old. Who’s going to take care of those poor kids now?” Juroska said.
Neighbors reported that police had been called to the same residence just two months earlier, suggesting an ongoing pattern of domestic troubles. Family members also confirmed that Carter had endured past abuse from the suspect, who had been living at the residence. The tragedy has left residents in both Fountain and Colorado Springs shaken, with many offering condolences and support for Carter’s loved ones.
Born on August 24, 1992, in Baltimore, Maryland, Amanda Carter was remembered as a caring mother and loyal friend. Her life was cut short on September 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to her children. Tributes have poured in on social media, with friends recalling her as a bright spirit whose kindness touched many.
The Fountain Police Department, working with the El Paso County Coroner’s Office, has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. While the suspect’s name has not yet been released, officials are urging anyone with additional information to contact FPD. They also reminded the public about the importance of reaching out to local domestic violence support services for help in preventing similar tragedies.
