ANGLETON, Texas — A tragic early-morning shooting in Brazoria County has left two children dead and two others critically injured, with their mother now facing arrest in connection to the heartbreaking incident. Authorities say the shooting took place before dawn on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the small Texas community.

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), deputies were dispatched around 5:00 a.m. after a call reported a possible shooting involving multiple children. Responding officers located a vehicle at a gas station on State Highway 288B near FM 521 and discovered four young children inside, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the shooting did not occur at the gas station but at another location that has yet to be determined. Multiple agencies are now working to establish the sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
Authorities confirmed that a 13-year-old and a 4-year-old child were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims, ages 8 and 9, were airlifted to a trauma hospital in critical condition. Both children have since been reported as stable and expected to survive. Emergency responders described the scene as deeply distressing, with officers and medical personnel doing everything possible to save the victims upon arrival.
Investigators have identified the children’s mother, Oninda Romelus, as the primary suspect in the case. She was taken into custody without incident and remains in the Brazoria County Jail as detectives continue their investigation. Authorities confirmed that all individuals believed to be involved have been detained and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Sheriff’s deputies have not disclosed a motive behind the shooting.
In an official statement, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said:
“All individuals believed to be involved have been detained, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. While the details are still developing, the loss of two children in such a manner is a tragedy. Our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected as we continue to learn more about this heartbreaking situation.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation at a residence believed to be connected to the crime scene. A news conference has been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Sunday, where officials are expected to release further details. The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of two innocent lives.
