ANGLETON, Texas — A devastating shooting in Brazoria County has left two children dead and two others critically injured early Saturday morning, sending shockwaves through the Angleton community. Authorities say the children’s mother is now in custody as investigators work to determine what led to the heartbreaking act of violence.

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), deputies were dispatched around 5 a.m. after receiving a frantic 911 call from a woman who claimed her son had tried to kill her and that multiple children were in the vehicle with her. When deputies located the woman and the children at a gas station on State Highway 288B near FM 521, they discovered a horrifying scene. All four children were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two of the victims—a 13-year-old and a 4-year-old—were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The other two children, ages 8 and 9, were airlifted to a nearby trauma hospital in critical condition. Later updates from investigators indicated that both surviving children are expected to recover. Deputies believe the shooting occurred elsewhere, and multiple agencies are now working together to determine the exact location of the incident.
Initial reports suggested one of the children might have been responsible for the shooting, but investigators have since clarified that the adult female—believed to be the children’s mother—is suspected to be the shooter. She was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her identity or that of the victims pending notification of next of kin. Officials confirmed that all individuals involved have been accounted for, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Brazoria County investigators at a related residence believed to be connected to the case. Detectives are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events that led up to the tragedy. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but authorities say they are pursuing all possible leads.
In a statement, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the community. “The loss of two children in such a manner is a tragedy,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected as we continue to learn more about this devastating situation.” The investigation remains ongoing.
