Teen Killed, Another Injured in Motorcycle Crash on I-275 in Hebron

HEBRON, Ky. — A tragic motorcycle crash on Interstate 275 late Tuesday night left one teenager dead and another injured, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. The collision occurred near mile marker 6 on the westbound side of the interstate, prompting a large emergency response and closing the roadway for several hours.

Deputies reported that the crash happened at approximately 10:49 p.m. when 18-year-old Maxwell Trentman of West Chester was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle alongside two other motorcycles. Investigators said Trentman lost control of his bike as he approached the crest of a hill on a slight right-hand curve. The motorcycle slid off the roadway to the left and struck a guardrail with devastating force.

The impact caused the motorcycle to break into multiple pieces and ejected Trentman into the middle of the interstate, deputies said. Tragically, four passing vehicles were unable to avoid striking him. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Trentman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a helmet, though the intensity of the crash caused it to dislodge.

Another 18-year-old motorcyclist from Liberty Township was also involved after being struck by debris from Trentman’s motorcycle. Deputies said he lost control and was forced to lay his bike down on the roadway. He sustained minor injuries and was transported by Hebron Fire/EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was treated and is expected to recover.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction unit is investigating the fatal crash. Early findings suggest excessive speed, loss of control, and failure to maintain lane were contributing factors. Deputies noted that all individuals involved are cooperating fully with investigators as they continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the deadly crash.

The incident forced law enforcement to close westbound lanes of I-275 for several hours as they worked to clear debris and document the scene. The interstate was reopened at approximately 3:58 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, particularly when traveling at high speeds or in areas with challenging road conditions.
