Seymour Man Killed by Dump Truck in Minnesota Construction Zone

A tragic accident in Minnesota claimed the life of a 25-year-old man from Seymour after he was struck by a dump truck inside a construction zone. According to the Minnesota State Police, the incident occurred Thursday afternoon, September 25, just before 2:00 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Highway 610 near Maple Grove Parkway in Maple Grove, Hennepin County.

Investigators said the crash happened when a dump truck, which was working inside the construction zone, began reversing and struck a pedestrian in the area. The victim was identified as Adam Frederick Smith, who suffered fatal injuries despite wearing a helmet at the time. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Smith was pronounced dead shortly after the collision.

The dump truck was being operated by 57-year-old Dianand Sukhram, a resident of Florida. Authorities confirmed Sukhram was not injured in the crash. Early findings indicate that alcohol was not a factor, though the official investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine exactly how the fatal collision occurred.

The accident underscores the dangers of construction zones along major highways, where heavy equipment, workers, and limited visibility often intersect. Reversing dump trucks pose particular risks due to large blind spots, even when safety alarms and mirrors are in place. Officials have not yet clarified why Smith was in the construction area at the time or whether he was working there, but the tragedy has prompted renewed concerns about site safety protocols.

Friends and family of Smith, as well as the Seymour community, have been left heartbroken by the sudden loss of a young life. Authorities have not released further personal details out of respect for his family’s privacy, but the incident has shaken both his hometown and those connected to the construction site.

The Minnesota State Police continue to investigate and are expected to review safety measures and procedures within the construction zone as part of their findings. At this stage, no citations or charges have been issued, but investigators are examining visibility conditions, driver awareness, and construction site protocols. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to contact state police to assist with the ongoing case.
