A 23-year-old woman from St. Louis has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action following a deadly shooting in the city’s Greater Ville neighborhood. The incident unfolded Friday, September 19, and has now led to the arrest of Dejha Tucker, who authorities allege shot and killed another 23-year-old, identified only as Keyshawn.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Tucker and two other individuals confronted Keyshawn along the 2900 block of St. Ferdinand Avenue. During the encounter, the situation turned violent. Witnesses and surveillance footage showed that Keyshawn raised his hands to signal that he was unarmed. Despite this, investigators say Tucker ran toward him and fired a close-range shot after he had already fallen to the ground.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive his injuries. Authorities confirmed that Keyshawn was later pronounced dead, leaving family and friends devastated by the sudden act of violence. His death has further fueled concerns about rising gun crime in St. Louis neighborhoods, where fatal shootings continue to claim young lives.
Not long after the shooting, police located Tucker at a different location, suffering from a gunshot wound of her own. She was transported to a hospital for treatment and later released into police custody. A 27-year-old woman was also taken into custody in connection with the incident, though authorities have not yet confirmed her role in the confrontation.
Prosecutors filed charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action against Tucker following a review of the evidence, which includes surveillance footage and witness statements. Officials described the shooting as an “unprovoked and deliberate act” that highlights the reckless nature of escalating street disputes. Police have not released details about what may have sparked the confrontation between the victim and the suspects.
The tragic killing has once again drawn attention to the city’s ongoing battle with gun violence. Community leaders and law enforcement are urging residents to come forward with information that could assist in the investigation. Anyone with additional details is encouraged to contact the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department or CrimeStoppers. For now, the Greater Ville neighborhood is mourning yet another young life cut short in a senseless act of violence.
