A San Antonio mother has been arrested after her two young children were found dead inside a hot vehicle over the weekend, with investigators pointing to troubling inconsistencies in her account of what happened. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as 28-year-old Tiona Lasaisha Islar, who is now facing serious charges in connection with the tragedy.
Deputies were called around 3 p.m. Saturday to a home near Chancery Gate and Appleton Way in the Far West Side of Bexar County, close to the Alamo Ranch area. When first responders arrived, they discovered two children unresponsive inside a vehicle. Despite deputies and EMS performing life-saving measures, both children—identified as 6-year-old Sevani Stevenson and 3-year-old Miyani Islar—were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, Islar initially told deputies that she last saw her children inside the house before lying down to sleep around 10 a.m. She later called 911 after finding them in the car. However, during questioning, investigators noted her statements did not match the evidence, describing the mother’s account as “inconsistent.”
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar addressed the media, saying, “Something is not adding up about this case. The initial report was for children who were left in the car, but without going into too much detail, there are inconsistencies in the story. I’m not confident enough to tell you all that’s definitely what happened.”
Islar was arrested and booked into jail on charges of Injury to a Child SBI/Death, according to jail records. Investigators are still awaiting official autopsy results from the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office to confirm the cause and manner of death. Authorities have not released information regarding the children’s father or his whereabouts at the time of the incident.
As the investigation continues, deputies are asking neighbors in the area to review any home surveillance footage between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with video or information is urged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at 210-335-6000 or email BCSOTIPS@bexar.org
. For the community, the heartbreaking deaths of Sevani and Miyani stand as a devastating reminder of the dangers of hot vehicles and the importance of vigilance in preventing such tragedies.
