Teen Killed, Four Injured in Tragic Early-Morning Crash in Chisago City

CHISAGO CITY, Minn. — A heartbreaking crash in Chisago City early Saturday morning has left one teenager dead and several others seriously injured. Authorities identified the victim as 15-year-old Jax Zarn, whose life was tragically cut short in the violent collision that occurred around 1:58 a.m. near Stacy Trail and Ivywood Trail, according to the Lakes Area Police Department.

Investigators said the crash involved a 2014 Toyota Camry and a 2000 Toyota 4Runner in a head-on collision. The Camry was reportedly driven by a 14-year-old, carrying two 15-year-old passengers, while the 4Runner was operated by a 17-year-old driver with an 18-year-old passenger. The circumstances that led to the two vehicles colliding are still under review, but officials confirmed the crash caused severe damage to both vehicles.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly but were unable to save Jax Zarn, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two occupants of the Camry sustained serious injuries—one of them airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. In the 4Runner, the 17-year-old driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was also flown to a trauma center, while the 18-year-old passenger was transported by ambulance. Their current conditions remain undisclosed.

Authorities reported discovering alcohol near the scene, suggesting it may have played a role in the crash, though further toxicology results are pending. Investigators are working to determine whether impairment, excessive speed, or reckless driving contributed to the deadly collision.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Chisago County community, leaving classmates, neighbors, and friends struggling to process the loss of such a young life. Vigils and memorials are being planned to honor Jax’s memory, with loved ones describing him as a “bright, funny, and caring soul who always brought joy to those around him.”

The Lakes Area Police Department, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, continues to investigate the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area around the time of the crash to contact investigators. As the community mourns, residents are reminded of the life-altering consequences of unsafe and impaired driving.
