Columbus Teen Found Shot to Death in Bexley

BEXLEY, Ohio — Authorities have identified the person found dead Monday evening near a residential area in Bexley as 18-year-old Demetrese Norvett of Columbus, according to the Bexley Police Department. Police say the discovery was made around 5:15 p.m. near the 500 block of Cassady Avenue after a passerby noticed something unusual in the bushes and alerted authorities.

Responding officers arrived quickly and confirmed the presence of a body near an apartment complex. The area was immediately cordoned off as investigators began processing the scene. Bexley Police Chief Gary Lewis said detectives are treating the case as a potential homicide and are working closely with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) to gather and analyze evidence.

“Our detectives are following multiple leads and working tirelessly to determine what led to Mr. Norvett’s death,” Chief Lewis stated. “We are committed to uncovering every detail and ensuring that justice is served.” Officials confirmed that Norvett had suffered gunshot injuries, though no arrests have yet been made.

Mayor Ben Kessler expressed support for the ongoing investigation, commending officers for their professionalism and dedication. “I’m deeply appreciative of the men and women of the Bexley Police Department for their tireless efforts in seeking the truth,” Kessler said. “Our community stands with the family during this heartbreaking time.”
