OPELIKA, Ala. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that shocked the Opelika community Tuesday morning. The Lee County Coroner’s Office confirmed the deceased as 34-year-old Breanna Colquitt, a local resident whose life was tragically cut short in what police are treating as a suspicious incident.
The Opelika Police Department reported that officers were dispatched around the early hours of September 16, 2025, to the 1000 block of Samford Court following a call about a disturbance. When officers arrived, they discovered Colquitt suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton said Colquitt’s body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for a full postmortem examination. The autopsy is expected to clarify the extent of her injuries and may provide investigators with additional insight into how the stabbing unfolded. Sexton emphasized that the forensic review will be vital in piecing together the timeline and circumstances of the crime.
Opelika police stressed in a public statement that this appears to be an isolated case and that there is no ongoing danger to the community. Authorities confirmed that “all individuals involved have been identified and interviewed,” but added that because a juvenile is linked to the case, specific details cannot be released at this time. Alabama law requires confidentiality in cases involving minors, limiting the amount of information officials can share.
Detectives continue to investigate, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading up to Colquitt’s death. While officials have not disclosed whether charges are imminent, they noted that the case remains active and ongoing. Police encouraged anyone with information to contact the Detective Division at (334) 705-5220, the Secret Witness Hotline at (334) 745-8665, or submit tips anonymously through the Opelika Police mobile app.
The stabbing has left Opelika residents shaken, as violent crime of this nature is relatively uncommon in the city. Friends and family of Colquitt described her as a caring and compassionate individual, and her sudden death has caused widespread grief. As investigators work within the legal constraints of a juvenile-related case, the community continues to mourn her loss, awaiting answers and the pursuit of justice.
