Perris Man Killed in Motorcycle Collision Near Lake Mathews

LAKE MATHEWS, Calif. — Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died in a crash near Lake Mathews on Sunday night as 48-year-old Edgar Flores of Perris. The fatal collision occurred shortly before 9 p.m. along Cajalco Road, between Eagle Canyon Road and La Sierra Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Investigators said Flores was riding his motorcycle eastbound at an unknown speed when he collided with a sedan traveling on the same stretch of road. The impact sent Flores off the roadway and down an embankment. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet clear what factors led to the collision.

Emergency responders from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived within minutes of the crash. Sadly, despite efforts to render aid, Flores was pronounced dead at the scene less than 15 minutes after the accident. The driver of the sedan, who was not injured, immediately stopped and cooperated with authorities at the site.

CHP officers temporarily closed portions of Cajalco Road while they conducted a preliminary investigation and cleared debris from the scene. The closure lasted several hours before the roadway was fully reopened to traffic. Officers also interviewed the driver of the sedan, whose name has not been released, and said there was no indication of any wrongdoing on his part.

The crash left many residents in the Lake Mathews area shaken, as the winding stretch of Cajalco Road is known for its limited visibility and sharp curves that can be dangerous for motorists, especially after dark. Authorities are reminding all drivers and riders to use extra caution on rural roads and to maintain safe speeds when navigating such areas.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone with additional information or who may have witnessed the collision is urged to contact the Riverside CHP Office at 951-324-7210. The tragic loss of Edgar Flores serves as another somber reminder of the risks motorcyclists face on local highways and the importance of vigilance on the road.
