Danville Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Halifax County, Virginia

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. — Authorities have identified the man who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Halifax County over the weekend as 33-year-old Demietre R. Brandon of Danville. According to the Virginia State Police, Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene following the fatal incident on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

The crash occurred along Philpott Road, roughly one mile east of Hackberry Road. Preliminary reports indicate that Brandon was driving a Chevrolet Spark westbound when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The car then traveled down an embankment and struck a tree, causing severe damage. Emergency responders arrived soon after receiving calls about the crash but found Brandon unresponsive. Despite their efforts, he was declared deceased at the scene.

Investigators from the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the site to analyze the circumstances leading up to the collision. Officials said Brandon was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, and authorities have since urged the public to always use seatbelts, emphasizing how such safety measures can significantly reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries in crashes.

Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident and that no additional injuries were reported. There were no immediate signs of hazardous road conditions or mechanical failure, though investigators continue to examine all possible contributing factors. Traffic in the area was temporarily rerouted as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and conduct an on-site assessment before reopening the roadway later that morning.

Community members from both Halifax County and Danville have expressed heartfelt condolences to Brandon’s family. Friends and neighbors described him as a kind, hardworking individual whose loss has deeply saddened those who knew him. Local residents have also taken to social media to share memories and messages of support in the wake of the tragedy.

As the investigation remains ongoing, officials have not yet determined what caused Brandon’s vehicle to leave the roadway. The Virginia State Police reiterated their commitment to completing a thorough investigation and encouraged anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact authorities. The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of seatbelt use, safe driving, and vigilance behind the wheel.
