COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Cobb County community after the body of 45-year-old Tange Davis, a mother reported missing over the weekend, was discovered buried in Atlanta. Authorities have charged her boyfriend, 56-year-old Cecil McCrary, in connection with her death following what police describe as a chilling confession.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, Davis was reported missing on Saturday evening after she failed to show up for work and stopped responding to calls and messages. Family members said this behavior was highly unusual for her. Investigators later learned that McCrary had told officers Davis was last seen at his home on Thursday and claimed he had not heard from her since. However, during an interview with police on Tuesday night, McCrary allegedly confessed to killing Davis and burying her body.
Following McCrary’s statement, officers located Davis’ remains in the area he described in Atlanta, confirming her family’s worst fears. The discovery has devastated those who knew her. “She’s just a beautiful person, you know. She worked really, really hard,” said her stepsister Vershelle Hendricks in an interview with Channel 2’s Bryan Mims. Cobb County Police Chief Dan Ferrell also expressed sorrow, saying, “Our hearts are with her family, and we are reminded that behind every statistic is a person — a mother, a friend, a colleague whose life mattered.”
Police have revealed that this was not the first time officers had responded to calls involving the couple. According to official records, McCrary had previously been arrested in October on charges of aggravated assault and kidnapping against Davis. A court order had been issued for him to stay away from her, but investigators say Davis moved back in with him about a month ago, a decision family members say they were unaware of. “We never knew of the abuse,” Hendricks said. “We’re just finding all of this out.”
At the time of Davis’ death, McCrary was out on pretrial release for the earlier kidnapping and assault charges. Authorities confirmed that he is currently being held at the Cobb County Jail, where he faces two counts of theft by taking in addition to charges expected to be upgraded following the homicide investigation.
Police and community leaders are urging residents to take domestic violence seriously and to seek help when in danger. “This loss devastates all of us,” Chief Ferrell said. “We remain committed to protecting those at risk to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.”
