OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky State Police Post 16 in Henderson is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a local motorcyclist Tuesday evening on Carter Road. Authorities say the collision occurred around 8:42 p.m. near the U.S. 60 Bypass off-ramp. A trooper patrolling the area discovered the wreck and immediately notified Post 16 Dispatch before beginning the initial investigation.

According to a preliminary report, the crash involved a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by 32-year-old Tyler Hamilton of Owensboro and a 2023 Toyota Tacoma driven by 22-year-old Dylan Cook of Philpot. Investigators determined that Hamilton was traveling southbound on Carter Road when he failed to stop for a red traffic light at the U.S. 60 Bypass off-ramp. As Cook attempted to turn northbound onto Carter Road from the ramp, the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the pickup truck.
The impact of the collision caused Hamilton to be ejected from his motorcycle. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, providing immediate aid before transporting him to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, Hamilton succumbed to his injuries a short time later. His death marks another heartbreaking reminder of the risks motorcyclists face on local roadways, especially during nighttime travel.
Both Cook and a passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash. Paramedics treated them at the scene, and neither required hospitalization. The Toyota sustained significant damage to its driver’s side, while debris from the motorcycle was scattered across the roadway, prompting a temporary closure as officials worked to document the scene and clear the area.
Trooper Joseph Richling is leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this stage, authorities have not indicated whether speed or impairment played a role, though a full reconstruction is being conducted to determine contributing factors. Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage from nearby intersections and interview additional witnesses as part of their findings.
Kentucky State Police expressed gratitude to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Owensboro Police Department, Daviess County Fire Department, and Daviess County Emergency Medical Services for their coordinated response. The community is mourning the loss of Tyler Hamilton, described by friends as a passionate rider and devoted family man. Officials continue urging motorists and motorcyclists alike to remain alert and exercise caution at intersections to prevent further tragedies.
