NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 62-year-old man who was fatally shot Tuesday morning inside a west Nashville apartment has been identified as Mahmoud Z. Al-Bunni, authorities confirmed. The Metro Nashville Police Department’s Homicide Unit announced that 20-year-old Hailey J. Hall has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the deadly shooting.

According to investigators, the incident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. inside an apartment located in the 6900 block of Highway 70 South. Police said another resident of the home called 911 after returning and discovering Hall standing in the doorway of the bedroom he shared with Al-Bunni. The caller told authorities that when he looked inside, he saw the victim lying unresponsive on the floor. Hall allegedly admitted to shooting Al-Bunni before the witness contacted police.
Responding officers and emergency personnel arrived within minutes and confirmed that Al-Bunni had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A local priest is working with authorities to notify the victim’s next of kin. Police have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between Hall and the victim or any potential motive for the shooting.
Detectives said Hall was taken into custody at the scene without incident. She reportedly declined to speak with investigators about what led to the shooting. Authorities collected evidence from the apartment and are reviewing forensic findings to piece together the sequence of events. The firearm believed to have been used in the crime was recovered at the location, according to police reports.
Following her arrest, Hall was booked into the Metro Jail, where a judicial commissioner set her bond at $100,000. Officials said additional charges could be considered as the investigation continues. The case remains active, and detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.
Neighbors expressed shock upon learning of the tragedy, describing the normally quiet residential complex as peaceful and safe. “It’s just heartbreaking,” one nearby resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen right next door.” Authorities are urging anyone with further information related to the case to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
