One Dead, One Injured in Head-On Crash in Priest Lake Area

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A deadly crash in the Priest Lake area early Tuesday morning claimed the life of one driver and left another injured, according to Metro Nashville Police. The collision happened around 4 a.m. on September 16 at the intersection of Bell Road and Ned Shelton Road.

Investigators said the crash involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions — a Nissan Rogue and a GMC Terrain. Police determined that 26-year-old Kyree Hollins, driving the Rogue southbound, crossed the double yellow centerline for reasons that remain under investigation. His vehicle collided head-on with the Terrain, which was moving northbound through the intersection. The impact caused severe damage to both cars.

Emergency crews responded quickly, but despite their efforts, Hollins was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Terrain, whose name has not yet been released, was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Doctors later confirmed that the individual’s injuries were not life-threatening, and they are expected to recover.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. While officers have not found clear evidence of impairment, standard toxicology testing will be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office as part of the process. Results from those tests are still pending. Authorities also noted that the pre-dawn timing of the collision could raise questions about visibility and road conditions, though it has not been confirmed whether those factors played a role.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Metro police had not released further details but said additional information would be shared as the investigation develops. The crash highlights ongoing concerns about roadway safety in Davidson County, where head-on collisions and lane departures continue to rank among the deadliest types of accidents.

For the Priest Lake community, the loss of Hollins serves as a painful reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike on local roads. Police continue to urge drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, and never drive impaired, stressing that even a momentary lapse in control can have devastating consequences. The investigation into the fatal wreck remains open.
