PICKENS COUNTY — A 78-year-old woman from Reform has died following a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in Pickens County. Authorities identified the victim as Edith M. Gault, whose life was tragically cut short after her pickup truck overturned along a rural roadway.
According to Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division, the fatal crash took place on October 13 along Ollie Bonner Road. Preliminary reports indicate that Gault was driving when her pickup truck left the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle, and Gault sustained critical injuries in the crash.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, but despite their best efforts, Gault was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the tragic accident.
The ALEA Highway Patrol Division is continuing to investigate what caused the pickup to veer off the road. Investigators are looking into whether speed, road conditions, or a possible medical issue may have contributed to the crash. At this time, no foul play is suspected.
Residents of Reform and the surrounding community are mourning the loss of Gault, described by neighbors as a kind and caring woman who was deeply loved by those who knew her. Her sudden passing has left friends and family heartbroken, as they remember her warmth and dedication to her loved ones.
Authorities are reminding all drivers to remain alert behind the wheel, especially on rural roads that may have uneven surfaces or sharp curves. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as officials continue to review the findings.
