31-year-old Motorcyclist killed in Fatal Kankakee County Crash

Authorities in Kankakee County have identified the victim of a tragic weekend crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. According to Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner, the deceased has been named 31-year-old Trevor Waddell of Braidwood.

The collision occurred Sunday morning on Illinois Route 17 near South 3120W Road, just west of Kankakee. Emergency crews, including the Illinois State Police (ISP) and local paramedics, responded to the scene around 9:49 a.m. Despite their best efforts, Waddell was pronounced deceased at 10:18 a.m., according to the coroner’s report. His family has since been notified of the tragic loss.

Following the crash, a portion of Route 17 was shut down to allow state police to conduct a full investigation and reconstruction of the scene. The roadway remained closed until about 2 p.m. as investigators documented evidence and cleared debris. Both the motorcycle and the passenger car involved sustained significant damage, though officials have not yet released details on the cause or sequence of the collision.

Authorities have not confirmed whether speed, weather, or visibility played a role in the incident. The Illinois State Police Troop 5 team continues to examine vehicle positions, skid marks, and witness statements to determine what led to the crash. Officials said updates will be provided once the investigation is complete.

The news has deeply affected the Braidwood community, where friends and neighbors are mourning Waddell’s untimely passing. He was remembered as a kind and energetic young man who loved riding motorcycles and spending time outdoors. Tributes have begun appearing online, with residents offering condolences and prayers for his family during this difficult time.

The stretch of Illinois Route 17 where the collision occurred is a two-lane rural highway that locals describe as challenging, with curves and fluctuating traffic speeds. Authorities continue to remind drivers to stay alert, especially when motorcycles are present on the road. Waddell’s death stands as a somber reminder of the importance of road awareness and safe driving for both motorists and riders alike.
